About Susan Burghart

Originally from Ellensburg, Washington and graduate of Central Washington University (1998, B.A. Graphic Design, Cum Laude). Susan worked as a graphic designer for about seven years for her alma mater. During this time she relied on doing a lot of vector illustration to spruce up various layouts. She was also doing some freelance graphic design and illustration on the side. When she started receiving unexpected attention and commissions for her illustration work, Susan started to think more seriously about pursuing illustration full-time. Up until this point Susan usually thought of herself as a designer that could draw, but not really an illustrator in the strict sense. To this day though she works primarily as an illustrator, Susan still takes a lot of her graphic design influence and experience with her, and still enjoys working with typography. In 2005 Susan went back to school to study illustration, receiving her Master's Degree with Distinction in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts, London. Following completion of her studies, she received various honors, including having her work included in the University's permanent collection and winning best of category in the 2006 Computer Arts Graduate Showcase, Illustration and 2D Division.
